Cyprus Government Structure

Republic of Cyprus is a Presidential where the head of the govternment is the President elected for a term of five years.

Due to the clashes between Turkish Cypriots and Greak Cypriots seats of Turkish Cypriots in the Assembly remain vacant since 1964.

In 1974 Cyprus was divided into the Greek Cypriot controlled Republic of Cyprus or the Southern Cyprus and the Turkish controlled Northern Cyprus. The Turkish Cypriots subsequently declared independence in 1983 as the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, but were recognized only by Turkey. In 1985 the TRNC adopted a constitution and held its first elections. The United Nations recognizes the sovereignty of the Republic of Cyprus over the entire island of Cyprus.
